Synthesis and electronic elements are front and center on “Imagination”, the second of two new singles by the rock duo Robots Are Dix. Exploring a sound a little removed from the previous guitar-driven releases, the guys wanted to engage a different side of their musical tastes while still maintaining a strong song-based focus. What essentially started out as an attempt to write a simple children’s song on an acoustic guitar, morphed into a full production with guitars, analogue synths, and driving percussion.
The lyrics are a playful reminder that things aren’t always what they seem to be.
“When you wish upon a star, you remember where you came from…though the light seems very far, it’s just imagination.”
A dynamic, oscillating groove and a simultaneously deep and light hearted lyric carry the song into a unique and somewhat unexpected overall arrangement. What started off as a simple kid’s song has become its own unique expression, inhabiting a distinct niche that gives the listener a colorful storyline with all the bells and (literal) whistles.
